Last month Mrs Westwood entered a competition on Twitter to win £500 of books for the school; the only proviso being that they had to be used as a Book Advent Calendar for the children. We recently found out that Mrs Westwood and Beckers Green were one of the lucky winners of the Siobhan Dowd Trust’s Advent Books competition and that we had £500 to spend on new books to create a wonderful advent calendar for the children this year. The books arrived in school last week and we will be wrapping them for each class and creating a Treasure Hunt/Advent calendar so that every class has the opportunity to find and open a new book over the advent period. We received 60 new books which should keep us busy reading into the New Year!

These books will be fabulous additions for our new library.  We are turning the hive into our library area - Mrs Quilter has been busy decorating and funds from the PTA, including a large donation from a local business, has enabled us to buy some new furnishings to make this a comfortable and inspiring space.  Mrs Smyth is busy scanning all the books in school into the library software system and we are hoping to open just before Christmas.
