A Firefighter's role

As part of our topic, we were treated to a workshop by Firefighter Chris.

Firefighter Chris heard about the children's topic and came in to speak to us. After quizzing the children on their knowledge of 1666, he was able to explain and compare the equipment that he uses nowadays (no more fire hooks and leather buckets!) We were taken through his uniform and breathing apparatus. We were surprised to learn that the oxygen in his cylinder only lasts around 20 minutes!

Miss Finch got in on the action and was able to try on the uniform. It was super heavy!

After our talk, we went out to play and re-enacted our experience! We put on our tunics and got ready to help people. (Chris' favourite part of the job.)
