Amazing Artists

Our art lessons this half term have been focused on Elizabeth Blackwell, a botanical illustrator who drew pictures for her book, 'A curious herbal' written to help doctors identify plants and flowers to be used in herbal medicines. 

Our block of art lessons began last week with research - we learnt about Elizabeth Blackwell, her art work and created our own moodboards to help inspire our final pieces. We then moved on to experimentation, where we learnt different techniques to create tone and texture, using different grades of pencils and graphite:

Our final lesson last week saw us look at individual parts of plants, noticing the leaves, stems. petals and flower heads and designing our own art work, thinking about using the different techniques we had learnt to add tone and texture.

Today we continued with our art lessons, using all of our knowledge to draw our own flowers:
