DT - create a moon buggy

In our Design and Technology lessons this week, we have designed, made and evaluated moon buggies!

Linking to our learning of Neil Armstrong flying to the moon in Apollo 11 and then using the Lunar Module to explore the moon's surface, our task this week was to make our own moon buggies.

We watched a video of Armstrong racing round the moon in the Lunar module and were amazed at what the surface of the moon looked like – dusty, bumpy and lots of rocks.

We designed our own buggies, thinking about what it needed to have and be - space for a passenger, sturdy wheels for travelling on different terrain and a flag or satellite.

We then moved on to making our buggies, using boxes, dowel, wheels, tape and crafts to help make satellites, flags and decorations:

We had lots of fun doing this! Before we were able to write our written evaluations, we took the buggies outside and tested over different terrains – grass, concrete, rocks and tarmac (Unfortunately, the rockets were fully booked to take us to the moon!)

Today, we had a PSHE lesson on healthy snacks. We made our own fruit kebabs and enjoyed eating them in class!
