Micro:Bits

In computing this half term we have been using the Micro:Bit computers.
The micro:bit is a pocket-sized programmable computer designed to inspire children to get involved with coding and digital making. It was invented by the BBC and launched in 2015. The micro:bit features a variety of built-in components like an LED display, buttons, sensors (accelerometer, compass, light), and wireless connectivity (radio and Bluetooth). It can be programmed using various platforms like Microsoft MakeCode.
Last term, we used Scratch to write programs. We have moved on to look at coding using the Micro:Bits. We have been able to program the mini computer to display different words and pictures.
This is the code we used:
This picture shows the Micro:Bit saying the word 'Maybe'.
We then moved on to making step counters with the Micro:Bits - we were able to shake the Micro:Bit and the counter would go up. The programs we wrote used the same technology as the step counters in watches.
This was Thomas' code for his step counter.
This picture shows Thomas' Micro;Bit working as a step counter.
