Fire Lighting.

In a session based on using tools, children were invited to use a flint and steel to learn about fire lighting.
In their forest school session today, the Elephant's class had an invitation for learning how to light a fire. Safety talks came first - when to light a fire, who with and lots of do's and don'ts - the children were incredibly responsible and were able to give good reasons for needing an adult present.
We spoke about what a fire needs to be successful:

We then used a flint and steel and practiced making sparks:

Then we had a go - this activity not only teaches children about the importance of fire safety, and tool use of starting a fire, it encourages a growth mindset, along with skills linked to our Bee values - Be Challenge, Be Resilient and Be Respectful (along with lots of perseverance and teamwork!)
