London's Burning

Welcome Back!

We’re excited to be diving into a new History topic this half term — The Great Fire of London! This is always a favourite with the children, and it’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm already.

To kick things off, we watched Magic Grandad, a child-friendly programme that brings the events of 1666 to life in an engaging and accessible way. The children loved learning about how the fire started, how it spread, and what life was like in London at the time.

This week has also tied in beautifully with Bonfire Night. We’ve been exploring fireworks through our English work, focusing on nouns and adjectives to describe the sights and sounds of a firework display. The children have been using their senses to plan their own firework poems, thinking about what they might see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste!

In Maths, we’ve been working on addition and number formation. The children have been practising how to form their numbers correctly and using different strategies to help them add numbers together.

It’s been a fantastic start to the half term, and we’re looking forward to seeing where this topic takes us next
