Amazing Artists

Our focus in Art has been on collage, looking at skylines in London and Sir Christopher Wren, who designed and built St Pauls Cathedral after it burnt down in the Great Fire of London.

Our art lesson started with learning about collage and the work of Sir Christopher Wren. We created mood boards to help inspire our final piece:

Next, we moved on to experimenting with collage, using different materials and ripping and tearing techniques before gluing to a flat surface. We also spoke about silhouettes and how these can be created using block paper or strips and experimented with these techniques too:

For the design stage of the lesson cycle, we used either strips of paper or blocks of paper to design our skylines - we had researched and looked at skylines in London and around the world and thought about the shape, size and height of buildings, before having a go a designing our own:

Using our skills learnt in these lessons, we used collage to create a fire background, overlaying and collaging red, yellow and orange paper, before adding our skyline silhouettes to them - we think we've captured the Great Fire of London perfectly!

All that's left to do now is to evaluate! We will be taking part in a Galloping Gallery to look at each other's final creations and then team huddles to discuss what went well in our artwork, what it reminds us of and how it makes us feel. We will also think about and record ways of changing, improving or adapting our work for next time!

Artists in the making!
