Weeks 1 and 2 - 22.2.22 - 4.3.22 - The 3 little pigs

This week we started a new topic – Traditional Tales. We talked about what Traditional Tales are and found that we could name lots of titles of the books in our class collection as we have heard of the stories before! We have enjoyed looking at these books this week, and especially our story of the week......The Three Little Pigs!

Our role play area became a construction site. We had to wear a hi-vis jacket to go in, and bring either a hard hat or a toolbox with us, so a safe number of builders were on site at a time! Look at how busy we were constructing!

We enjoyed telling the story of the Three Little Pigs as we set up the small world area with props to support our storytelling. Oh dear, I think the Big Bad Wolf has been huffing and puffing again!

We made some houses to protect the pigs, using different construction materials such as Megablocks.......

We even managed the tricky and fiddly challenge of making a house using cocktail sticks and mini marshmallows!

We also made collage houses in several different stages by drawing around templates, painting, adding collage, then making and numbering doors and adding the correct number of windows to each house! We worked really hard on these and were so proud of our finished houses, as you can see........

Lots of our creative activities centred around pigs, so we explored colour mixing to create the perfect pink for pigs! First we painted inside an outline drawn for us, then we drew our own pig pictures and painted these.

Ooooh look! It's the Three Little Pigs!

We used the theme of the story in our reading and writing too, creating wordbanks, reading sentences then matching pictures to them to tell the story, sequencing the story, and writing and illustrating our own Three Little Pigs books which we will be reading out loud and uploading to Tapestry soon!

Our next Traditional Tale will be Goldilocks and The Three Bears, and we look forward to lots more exciting activities!
